What a cute towel Rachel! When I was a girl, my mom used to make us each a new dress every year -- those were my favorites!!!

My favorite handmade Christmas present ever was a bridal gown that my father made for a Madame Alexander doll. He put seed pearls on the skirt and used hand tatted lace that the next door neighbor made for the skirt. I was a spoiled child.

My favorite handmade Christmas gift was the Christmas stocking my mom made me so so many years ago. It's red felt with a white top with my name spelled out in red letters. It has a white felt reindeer, and a Christmas tree with teeny tiny decorations and a lot of beautiful handwork. She did one for all 4 of us kids.

I love the stocking my mother made me when I was a little girl -- over 40 years ago. My son made me a divine, clay ring holder a few years ago. My daughter just gave me the cutest little pinch pot pumpkin. My husband writes me love letters. I love all handmade gifts.

Pat said...

Oh, gosh...I can't recall anything homemade that I ever got for Christmas, but if we can count Christmas cookies (a really nice platter of them) that were baked for me by the mother of a student, that would be it. As you know, it's hard for a busy teacher to get in any baking time, so that was a real treat to get that tray of cookies! LOVE the tea towel you made!

My favorite handmade gift that I ever gave was a cross stitched clock with birds all over it. I had to put together and stain the outside of the clock as well, and my mother adored it.

My Gramma gave me a ~12" scrap textured fabric ball when I was a very little girl. I still have it ~35 yrs later.

Beth said...

I JUST remembered this gift I gave one year -- I was maybe 10 or 11, and my brother wanted a cross-stitched shirt...(he was 4 or 5)....so I secretly made him a shirt. He was so surprised, as he had seen me making it, but I always played it off like I was making it for someone else. :)

Thanks for the fun giveaway!

My favorite handmade gift I've received is an afghan my grandmother made when I was very small. It used to seem really large and I could barely fold it, and now it's almost too small to use as an adult.

ErikaB3 said...

cute towel. my favorite handmade gift is every ornament that my kids have made me so far.

My most memorable handmade gift was not actually made when I received it. As a young girl, my mother gave me a Christmas card box that had stamped design tea towels, an embroidery hoop, floss, and scissors enclosed. She taught me how to embroider with those items. Filled me with joy.

Sweet tea towel! I made my little girl a Waldorf Doll two Christmases ago, and she sleeps with it every night...to see something I made so loved makes my heart happy!

My favorite gifts to give have been quilts. Last year I gave two, one to my amazing brother, and a quilt made from pieces of a quilt my great-great-grandmom made to my mom. And gifts received? On Christmas Eve, 2001, I discovered that I was pregnant with my first son. BEST PRESENT EVER!

quiltercaroline said...

Love the towel. I think the things I most enjoyed making and giving was an appliqued quilt with rabbits and carrots on that i gave to some friends - because their response was so wonderful and excited it was worth all the hours I had put in it. C

What a cute towel! :)
My favorite handmade gift I ever received was a wooden doll house that my grandpa made for me when I was a young girl. It was beautiful! He even furnished it to resemble our house; wallpapering the "girls room" with the same wall paper that was in my bedroom, and the "living room" with the same wall paper that was in our living room. It was SO special! :)

I'm normally on the giving side of the handmade gifts. I like making things like custom Family Tree pendants with the birthstones of those in the family best just because it has so much personal meaning and always makes the recipient smile.

The teatowel is lovely, Rachel! I'd love to have it in my kitchen :) The best handmade gift I ever gave was a Christmas Rag Quilt (the first I ever made) to our daughter. She'd made 3 quilts for her brother and sisters as wedding gifts and still didn't have one for herself. When I drew her name, I knew right away what I would make for her. She loved it and it is well used at their house. Thanks for asking - that's a good question!

Thanks for visiting my blog today. I popped over as soon as I saw you were in Alberta - because that's where I am too. I hope your marking gets finished. I'm subbing again tomorrow but I get to leave the marking behind :)

Best given was the breast cancer quilt me & my cousin made for my Mom about 5 years ago. My Mom is a breast cancer survivor and we did the quilt for her & in memory of my grandmother, who was not a survivor of the same disease. My Mom loved it.

The year I got my baby alive in 1969. I thought it was magic. The legs were hard plastic and cracked when she'd walk and fall over. That summer was the baby-not-so-alive project for my dad, fixing this doll on a weekly basis. Looking at my 4 yr old son's toys, it's amazing how plastics and technology has evolved!

My favorite handmade christmas gift received ever is the cute daisy pillow my niece made me. She embroidered a happy face in the middle of the white round pillow, then sewed yellow petals all around it. She also put a scripture on it that she had seen in my home. That made it so special for me. She was only 8 when she made it for me. She is not 45 and I still have the pillow!!

The Christmas before last, I made 27 of these. I love the idea of taking their interests and making it special to them. It is like they are getting a warm hug from me.

My favorite gift was the knitted shawl I made for my grandmother. It was one of my first knitting projects and I just imagined it hugging Grandma the whole time I was knitting. Grandma's 98 now! I recently visited her when she had a broken hip and one of the items she really wanted brought to her at the hospital was that red shawl. Now I see all my mistakes but Grandma sees the love in it. It means so much to me.
